Zoosa, a new website launched by Harvard Business School graduate Mike McGlade, may have just changed the way we think about measuring social impact. Similar to annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) reports, Zoosa is now challenging individuals to issue reports on their personal social impact actions.
“We really wanted to challenge people to highlight their social impact. Our hope is that by encouraging people to share their activities and measure their social impact, it will in turn encourage more people to share their stories and get involved” says Mike McGlade, Zoosa’s CEO.
Zoosa is still in its beta phase, but the website’s development looks promising. You can already volunteer online by influencing corporate social responsibility programs and meet other Zoosa members online through shared interests. There is a community section where people can share stories and ideas plus an opportunities section with over 2,000 social impact job opportunities. Even with all of that, however, the new personal social impact reports may be the most unique part of Zoosa’s website.
“It can be really hard to think about the areas in your life where you can have an impact. Not everyone has time to volunteer. Everyone has time to recycle. The social impact categories we include in your personal social impact report make it easy for you to see the areas where you can have an immediate impact today” highlights Brian Fleming, Zoosa’s CTO.
Zoosa includes sections for your financial giving, community activities, environmental impact – even you’re your personal suppliers. With all of the talk surrounding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), it’s interesting to see a website turning the tables on individuals.
It’s a new year. Maybe it’s time to issue your first personal social impact report.
